Write a brief reflection on your experience in this course. How will you use these skills now that the class is over?

  1. In this class I learned how to use some of the technology given to us by the school and for future projects I now know how to make a video or movie-slideshow or even how to just edit pictures with Adobe. In addition, I learned how to analyze the rhetorical situation of anything, whether it be non-fiction speech, a fiction book, or even something more common we see in everyday like an advertisement. I believe I can use my newly acquired rhetorical skills to present my future essay arguments in a better light and make them more convincing.

  2. In this class I learned how to do a lot of video and music editing which is something I find very useful. I think that this was something fun that I got to learn during this course and not something that I would normally go out and try to learn on my own. I also learned how to analyze rhetorical situations a lot better. I have never been someone who has been skilled at english and rhetoric. However, this course really slowed it down and made it easier to analyze.

  3. In this class I learned how to write an effective argument analysis of many different types of mediums. I think it was beneficial to learn how to analyze everything from a song to a political cartoon to a letter. I also learned how to use technology to make arguments. I learned how to use premiere pro and I use soundation to make music. I think that these skills will be beneficial in future classes and I might use them to make projects on my own time.

  4. In this class I learned how to make an argument in several different ways. I improved my ability to argue through an essay, but I also learned how to argue with a video, with pictures, and with sounds. I have never before made an argument through a video and I learned a lot from this. I learned how to keep the audience engaged how to to get a point across more concisely without using too much fluff. I also learned how to use a lot of programs that are helpful for making/editing pictures and recordings such as adobe premier pro, light room, and acrobat. These skills will be helpful as I will need to know how to use these programs in future classes.

  5. This class was the most bizarre but awesome class I have ever taken. There were times I had no clue what was going on but I always figured it out one way or another. I definitely have a completely different outlook on rhetoric as a whole. I never expected to make an argument through video and music. From this point on, I have different methods to make my point effective. Whether it is through a basic paper to a beat in the background of a slideshow, I have gained a more complete set of tools to succeed in my future courses involving arguments. I also developed confidence in myself concerning the use of computer programs. Unfortunately my musical ability seems like a lost cause. The most important lesson learned is to trust the writing process because if followed, the results tend to be impressive.

  6. I had absolutely no idea what to expect in this class after the first few days of class. However, as the weeks went on, I figured out how to figure out what was going on. I learned how to use lots of editing softwares like premiere pro and soundation and I learned the best way to formulate an argument. My first argument versus my last was so much more effective because I learned how to state my claim and properly go through the list of what needed to be said in an argument. I learned more about what rhetoric is, while getting to do so in an interesting way.

  7. i really enjoyed my time in this class. I liked researching my topic and learning more about it in the process. Doing multimedia presentations on different softwares was something that I have not done before. I will use these skills by thinking of different ways of presenting information and organizing ideas other than writing papers or making powerpoint presentations. i feel that my arguments became more effective and successful at getting the point across by using the rhetoric terms that we discussed in class

  8. I actually loved being in this class. I really enjoyed learning how to use all of the adobe programs to make videos and slideshows. I also loved learning the music programs that we used as I love making music and playing music. In respect to rhetoric, I believe i learned more about how to write rhetorically than any other English course I have ever taken. The discussions were very intriguing and thought provoking and got me thinking more in depth about rhetoric. I feel like my argumentative writing has gotten a lot better from this class as well.

  9. This class was a great experience. We had very thoughtful discussions and also learned useful editing skills with premiere. Learning that program is definitely something I could apply to other classes. Also, we definitely learned a lot about rhetoric and only had to write one essay to do so. The discussions we had were always very engaging and often made me think after class. After taking this class, I feel like you can argue any point as long as you have justification. I will definitely miss this class.

  10. I really enjoyed this class. I found it refreshing compared to my typical giant lecture class that lacked engagement. Learning about the adobe programs is a skill I always hoped to learn but was unsure how to navigate them until this course. I also enjoyed making my research argument and multimedia project. I found that they challenged both my creativity and writing skills, and I was proud of my final videos. Overall, my writing has improved greatly. I feel that I add more voice into my writing and am moving away from the typical 5 paragraph essays I was taught to write in high school.

  11. First off, I would like to say that this class was my most interesting course I have taken in my first two semesters at Clemson. I learned a lot about rhetoric and how important it is to structure our statements with thought in conversation and in text. This class taught me a lot about how to interpret things when I first see them through analyzing what it is trying to appeal to. I learned that everything has an appeal and in order to interpret it accurately you must be able to find that appeal. I was also grateful that I learned how to use adobe premier pro because it is such a great tool to have because of its versatility. I will most likely be using this program again during my college career because of the skills that I learned through this class.

  13. This class has opened my eyes to more aspects in life than solely rhetoric, we talked about such a variety of concepts and aspects of life that it made me look forward to the class, and also made me think of rhetoric in an entirely new way and broadened my horizon of what rhetoric can be applied to. I also really enjoyed doing unique projects such as the video project and the song project as a way of being persuasive. It made me think of more creative ways to get my point across, and it also taught me how to use multiple programs that I'm sure I will use in the future. Basically, this class has helped to think deeper than the surface, and realize there are always countless perspectives on everything.

  14. In this class I believe that my writing ability has greatly improved by increasing my knowledge on rhetoric. I liked this class more than any of my other courses because of the environment. It was much more welcoming and engaging, which made it easier to learn. This class has allowed me to analyze cartoons, letters, or papers much better than I had before. I also learned how to use audio and video editing programs like adobe audition, which can help me with projects in future courses.

  15. The two biggest lessons that this class taught me are the importance of preparation for writing as well as using technology to convey an idea. The essay I worked on this semester was much better once I mapped an outline of what I wanted to cover and where. With the technology, I learned how to use a platform other than writing to convey an argument. In some instances, using video strengthens an argument through the use of visual and auditory aids.

  16. I really enjoyed this class. Most of the time, the discussions we had in class had more of an impact on me than lectures in other classes. This class definitely improved my digital literacy. I'm good with technology, but it can be overwhelming to learn my way around a massive program like PremierePro, and this class helped with learning. I'll certainly be using PremierePro in the future; it's a great video software. I'm glad I got to dabble in music creation a bit, because that's something I've always wanted to do. I used Flat for my project, but I want to try out Soundation just for fun. Most importantly, I learned rhetoric is everywhere and comes in all sorts of forms.
